HMS Abyssinia (1870)
Reading about Téwodros | An Æthiopian Journal
http://www.ethiopiaeritrearpcvs.org/pages/library/books/reviews/rvblunile.html by John Coyne (Addis Ababa 62–64) WHENEVER ONE STARTS TO READ about Ethiopia, very soon he or she discovers Téwodros II, the infamous emperor of the Empire in the mid-nineteenth-century. Two Nerdy History Girls: Fake Beards & Face-Paint: the Dreadnought Hoax, 1910
Isabella reporting, With April Fools still prowling about, it seems like appropriate to mention one of the most outlandish pranks of the Edwardian era. (Remember this earlier hoax from 1809?) Acta Militaria: HMS Serapis
HMS Serapis in 1867The Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny, not to mention tensions in North America, made it abundantly clear that Britain needed the capacity to rapidly dispatch troops around the world. A small army and worldwide commitments meant that the troops that were available might have to be deployed almost anywhere.
