Sjogren's syndrome
El término Sjogren's syndrome figura en la edición en idioma inglés de Wikipedia. Allí se dice al respecto lo siguiente:

Sjögren's syndrome (pronounced /ˈʃoʊɡrɨn/ SHOH-grin or /ˈʃʌrɡrɨn/ SHUR-grin in English) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's white cells destroy the exocrine glands, specifically the salivary and lacrimal glands, that produce saliva and tears, respectively. The immune-mediated attack on the salivary and lacrimal glands leads to the development of dry mouth (xerostomia) and dry eyes (keratoconjunctivitis sicca), which takes place in association with lymphocytic infiltration of the glands That inflammatory process eventually severely damages or destroys the glands.
There are two types of Sjögren's syndrome, primary or secondary form. Primary Sjögren’s syndrome presents alone, in the absence of other autoimmune or connective tissue disorders and only impacts the salivary and lacrimal glands. Secondary Sjogren’s syndrome presents along with other autoimmune or connective tissue disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). People with secondary Sjogren's frequently continue to develop additional autoimmune disorders, such as Interstitial Cystitis.
In the United States, most of the population, as well as many medical providers, know little or nothing about Sjogren's syndrome. As the second most common form of arthritis, greater awareness and understanding is important for patients, their support system, and the medical profession. The average time to diagnosis of the syndrome is now 4.7 years. In 2014, The Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation announced a five-year goal to cut the time to diagnoses in half.

Nina Rawls Nina Rawls, widow of singer Lou Rawls, reveals her fight with Sjogren’s Syndrome. Nina Rawls has Secondary Sjogren’s syndrome, meaning it occurs in the presence of another connective tissue autoimmune disease, in her case lupus. “With my finding, I am now an advocate for Sjogren’s syndrome awareness, early diagnosis and treatment. I’m learning that although there is no cure for the syndrome, there are treatments that can greatly improve my troubling symptoms and will prevent further complications,” concludes Rawls.
